SAORI WEAVING IN QUEBEC FALL 2001

Saori weaving is practised on a regular basis in Quebec. It's popularity is growing constantly.

Montreal Atelier d'artisanat du Centre-villeis starting an ongoing workshop in mid-September. Eight trainees will start learning Saori weaving. They will be taught it's history, philosophy and accomplishments. The atelier is also considering giving a training workshop during the evening.

Le Centre des textiles contemporains de Montreal. Louise Pomminville and Nathalie Tremblay will introduce Saori weaving to students and give demonstrations. Until now, the school taught traditional weaving.

Dix Mille Villages: le commerce equitable.
Ten Thousand Villages: fair trading.
This boutique is a non-profit organization supporting artists and artisans from third world countries. Its mission and philosophy match ours.
Saori weaving demonstrations will be given during the whole week-end by Kim Ilhareguy, Normande Lapointe, Paule Laperriere, artists from Atelier Le fil d'Ariane.

Quebec City
Atelier du Patrimoine vivant will give Saori weaving demonstrations during Thanksgiving week-end, October 6 - 8. The atelier is beautifully located in the old city, on a street near the St.Lawrence River. Tourists and visitors attend Le Petit Champlain in great numbers
